Gravimetric Analysis
A high quality analytical balance is a necessity in any wastewater laboratory. To perform suspended solids analysis, you must have a balance capable of weighing to the nearest 0.0001 gram. The instrument is so sensitive that the weighing pan needs to be enclosed by sliding doors to prevent interference from air currents in the room.
It must also be placed on a sturdy table and be protected from excessive vibration. Here a dried filter is being placed on the pan using flat-tipped tweezers. Also shown are two types of "desiccator", where items which have been dried are allowed to cool in a low humidity chamber, so that they will not pick up moisture from the air.
